Prescription Drug Assistance

Are your medications too costly? Dr. Halim reviews popular online pharmacies that provide discounts for prescription drug medications (retail and mail-order).

Goodrx

  • Prices the medication at local chain pharmacies in your area and provides you with a coupon (specific to the pharmacy)
  • You bring the coupon (hard-copy or on your cell phone) and the rx (electronic or hard-copy) to the local chain pharmacy
  • Mobile app available
  • Pharmacies may not honor the coupon (especially with controlled substance rxs)
  • CRC recommends that you request a hard-copy of the rx from the provider (in case you have to bring it to multiple pharmacies)

  • CRC recommends you use the 90-day mail order directly from Blink Health to save money on maintenance medications
Mail My Prescriptions

mailmymeds.com front page for prescription drug discount mail order online

  • Allows you to purchase the medication online for mail order delivery
  • Requests the rx directly from the provider
  • Shows you the exact generic formulation that will be filled
  • Allows you to text message an online pharmacist
  • Unclear instructions on how to submit prescriptions
  • If rx is requested directly from the provider, there may be a delay based on the provider's timely (or untimely) response
  • Buggy website interface sometimes has errors when searching the brand name of the generic drug
  • CRC recommends you use the pharmacy if you prefer specific formulations of a generic medication
Refillwise

  • New program (started in 2019)
  • Prices aren't listed on the website
  • You bring your discount card (hard-copy or on your cell phone) and the rx to the pharmacy
  • The pharmacist is supposed to offer you an "80%" discount on most drugs (likely only specific generics)
  • The drug prices are not made available to the consumer (unlike other savings programs)
  • CRC is unable to recommend Refillwise at this time (insufficient evidence... but the website is well-designed!)
