CRC considers every client as an individual on the path from rehabilitation to performance and will work with you to develop a custom program to reach your goals.

While CRC is dedicated to helping clients recover from injury, we also have a passion for helping our clients lead healthy and balanced lives. Continuity of care is essential in assisting our patients to achieve their highest level of functioning. Other physical therapy clinics have the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) only doing the evaluation and then a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) implementing the treatment plan. You will be with the same provider (Dr. Banu Acan, DPT not PTA) throughout the duration of care. This instills a high level of confidence that you are receiving the highest quality and most thorough treatment available.

Services Overview

Women's Health Pre- & Post-Natal Therapy
As your physical body changes and accommodates the needs of your growing baby, you may experience discomfort and aches and pains. Physical therapy is an effective way to help you manage your pain and can offer you a variety of ways to make your pregnancy more comfortable. After you have your baby, there are some treatments to ease the pelvic floor pain and to help it heal.
Orthopedic Physical Therapy Rehabilitation
If you have an injury or illness that affects your bones, joints, muscles, tendons, or ligaments, you may benefit from the skilled services of Dr. Banu Acan, a physical therapist with training in orthopedics. Not all physical therapists are the same. Dr. Banu Acan can help you have an optimal outcome with your rehab after an orthopedic injury. She will utilize the right training geared to your specific condition to help you quickly return to your optimal level of health and functional mobility.
Selective Functional Movement Assessment
The Selective Functional Movement Assessment is meant to be used in a diagnostic capacity for musculoskeletal assessment when pain is present. The SFMA is a clinical model used to assist diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders by identifying dysfunctions in movement patterns. The SFMA is good for nearly anyone who is having pain during movement.
Advanced Manual Therapy
Advanced manual therapy is a method that employs skilled hand techniques and exercises to decrease pain, swelling and inflammation while improving coordination, mobility, and strength in muscles and joints. Dr. Banu Acan, DPT uses her hands to put pressure on the muscle tissue and manipulate the joints in an attempt to reduce pain associated with muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction.
Graston Techniques
The Graston Technique is a modification of traditional hands-on soft tissue mobilization that uses specifically designed instruments to introduce a controlled amount of microtrauma into an area of excessive scar and/or soft tissue fibrosis. Dr. Banu Acan is certified in this patented treatment modality to reduce pain, increase your range of motion, and function.
Athletic- & Kinesio-Taping
The Kinesio Taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. Banu Acan, DPT uses taping while providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy.
Myofascial Deep Tissue Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique used by Dr. Banu Acan that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Fascia is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption, trauma to one area of your fascia can cause dysfunction or pain in another area of the body.
Infralight Therapy
Infrared light is one of several innovative therapies used by Dr. Banu Acan for the management of patients with acute or chronic pain. The therapy uses certain wavelengths of light that are delivered to sites of the body that have injuries. Infrared light helps cells regenerate or repair themselves by improving the circulation of oxygen-rich blood in the body, promoting faster healing of deep tissues and relieving pain.
Balance Assessment & Fall Prevention
Balance problems make it difficult for people to maintain stable and upright positions when standing, walking and even sitting. Dr. Banu Acan has been trained to evaluate multiple systems of the body, including the muscles, joints, inner ear, eye-tracking ability, skin sensation, and position awareness in the joints (proprioception). She is an expert in prescribing active movement techniques and physical exercise to improve these systems, including strengthening, stretching, proprioception exercises, visual tracking, and inner ear retraining.
Posture Analysis
Posture refers to the body’s alignment and position with respect to the force of gravity. When we fall out of alignment, we risk pain, injury, poor performance, muscle fatigue, and eventual breakdown of muscle and connective tissue. Dr. Banu Acan, DPT performs a postural analysis or posture assessment to determine proper anatomical alignment or posture to identify any abnormalities. Dr. Banu Acan will teach you how to stay “aligned” to avoid injury and pain.
Pilates (Rehab & Exercise)
Pilates is a low-impact exercise form focusing on strength, flexibility, and stamina. Pilates is great for rehabilitation from an injury because the exercise promotes agility and good posture by toning the body, improving core strength, and correcting muscular imbalances. By incorporating Pilates-based exercises into personalized treatments, Dr. Banu Acan helps the patient get stronger and more comfortable with their movement. Pilates can be utilized to continue building on the gains they made during the physical therapy sessions.
Health & Nutrition Coaching
As a Health Coach, Dr. Banu Acan, DPT is a supportive mentor and wellness authority helping clients feel their best through food & lifestyle changes by tailoring individualized wellness programs to meet their individualized needs. Relationships, exercise, career, and spirituality are just as important to your health as the food you eat. Dr. Banu Acan takes a holistic approach to support the whole person.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy, also called essential oil therapy, is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Dr. Banu Acan at Core Revitalizing Center uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health. Each essential oil has an array of unique healing properties, uses, and effects. Combining essential oils to create a synergistic blend creates even more benefits.

Physical Therapy Conditions Treated

Physical therapy is an effective treatment for a broad range of orthopaedic conditions, sports-related injuries, neurological conditions, and other muscle, bone, and joint conditions.

Low back pain

Back pain is physical discomfort occurring anywhere on the spine or back, ranging from mild to disabling. Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. It can be caused by muscle strain/sprain, bulging or ruptured disks, pinched nerves, trauma, congenital deficits, degenerative conditions or non-mechanical disease processes (cancer, infections, inflammatory diseases).

There is enough evidence demonstrating that physical therapy can be an effective alternative—and with much less risk than surgery and long-term use of prescription medications. Physical therapy should always be recommended before any invasive techniques.

Shoulder-Rotator Cuff Strain/Repair

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder. Rotator cuff injuries occur most often in people who repeatedly perform overhead motions (wear and tear of the tendon tissue) in their jobs or sports.

Physical therapists implement conservative management using evidence-based practices to strengthen and improve flexibility to make the muscle tissue heal faster. PT also assists patients after surgery to regain strength and range of motion to enable them to return to their previous level of functioning.

Neck Pain

Neck pain is pain felt in the back of the neck – the upper spine area, just below the head. When certain nerves are affected, the pain can extend beyond the back of the neck to areas such as the upper back, shoulder, and arm. It is estimated that neck pain affects approximately 30% of the US population each year. The most common cause of neck and shoulder pain is injury to the soft tissues, including the muscles, tendons, and ligaments within these structures. Examples of causative factors include degenerative disc disease, neck strain, neck injury such as in whiplash, a herniated disc, or a pinched nerve.

Physical therapists manage chronic neck pain by evaluating and treating its multiple possible causes to avoid surgical intervention. The physical therapist will work with you to reduce pain, correct posture, strengthen weak or injured muscles, and improve motion.

Total Knee and Hip Replacements

Most people will at some point have knee or hip pain because these large joints have a demanding task: they must bear the full weight of your body while at the same time allowing for a wide range of motion. Wear and tear, injury, and simple genetic predisposition can all contribute to knee or hip pain.

Physical therapy is necessary to regain the ability to perform daily activities after replacement surgeries. The physical therapist’s individualized plan will ease pain and swelling, help with circulation (to avoid problems with blood clots), and build up strength in the joint and surrounding muscles.

Arthritis - Joint Disease (Knee, Elbow, Back)

Arthritis is not a single disease, but an informal term for joint pain or disease. There are over 100 different types of arthritis and related conditions. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis). When the cartilage – the slick, cushioning surface on the ends of bones – wears away, bone rubs against bone, causing pain, swelling and stiffness. Over time, joints can lose strength and pain may become chronic. People of all ages, sexes, and races can and do have arthritis, and it is the leading cause of disability in America.

Physical therapists assist arthritic patients by designing an individualized plan to improve flexibility, strength, and coordination.  Goals of physical therapy in arthritis include improving the mobility and restoring the use of affected joints, increasing strength to support the joints, and maintaining fitness and the ability to perform daily activities.

Vertigo/Dizziness

Vertigo is the sensation of spinning—even when you’re perfectly still, you might feel like you’re moving or that the room is moving around you. Most causes of vertigo involve the inner ear (“vestibular system”). One of the most common forms of vertigo is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), an inner-ear problem that causes short periods of a spinning sensation when your head is moved in certain positions. Other possible causes are inner ear infections, migraines, tumors (acoustic neuroma), head injury, or stroke.

The specific treatment will depend on the cause of the vertigo. The physical therapist main focus is to help get you moving again and manage vertigo at the same time. Treatment may include specialized head and neck movements or other exercises to help eliminate your symptoms. Conditions such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) have very specific tests and treatments.

Concussion

A concussion is an injury to the brain that results in temporary loss of normal brain function. It usually is caused by a blow to the head. In many cases, there are no external signs of head trauma.

Physical therapists assist the patient in finding the balance of returning to normal activities with symptom management that helps the patient return to full function. Concussion management includes baseline testing, evaluation of the head/neck, and vestibular/balance/ocular motor rehabilitation.
